Fellowships for Independent Researchers

The Women’s History Network is offering a small grant of up to £750 to support the direct costs of those researching women’s history, who are not employed in higher education. The research should be intended to lead to a published outcome and costs that will be covered include, for example, travel and accommodation when visiting archives, photocopying or photographic licences required for work in archives.

The award made will not cover:

  • Conference attendance costs
  • Equipment costs
  • Publication costs
  • Subsistence costs (i.e. food and drink)
  • Administration costs

Fellowships for Early Career Researchers

The Women’s History Network is offering two WHN fellowships to support ECRs. Each fellowships is designed provide some financial support to those in that challenging time between completing their doctorate and their first academic post to continue working in women’s history. The fellowship will include

  • £1500 which can be used in any way that enables the Fellow to sustain their role as a researcher, for example on conference attendance, visits to archives, or to pay copyright fees for images for a publication or a public engagement activity.
  • £250 to organise an event or other activity to connect ECRs working in

WOMEN’S HISTORY NETWORK (UK) SMALL GRANTS POSTGRADUATE SCHEME

The Women’s History Network is offering a small grant of £1,000 for the holding of a one day conference on women’s history organised by full time or part time postgraduates in universities or other institutions of higher education in the UK. The grant may be used in collaboration with other awards.  To be eligible to enter, the lead organiser/s must be members of the Women’s History Network at the time of application and at the time the activity is to take place.  Members of the current Women’s History Network Steering Committee are ineligible to apply.

Winner Announced: WHN £1,000 Small Grant Award 2017

Strong applications for the above were received, the first year of the operation of the scheme.  After much discussion and consideration the judges decided to give the award to a group of Postgraduate Students at Hull University, namely Stormm Buxton-Hill, Alice Whiteoak, Elizabeth Rogers, Helen Manning and Sarah Shield for their proposal on ‘Women’s Negotiation of Space, 1500-1900’.  Many congratulations to them all.   The Postgraduate £1,000 Small Grant Scheme will be offered again in 2018 and we would like to encourage postgraduates in the UK to apply.  Further details can be found on the WHN website or by contacting the …
