Triangle Mill Sisters
Ruth Beazley and Local Libraries
One hundred women mill workers lived in a hostel at Triangle, near Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, between 1920s and 1970s. Ruth Beazley came across a unique collection of 200 photographs from this community of women. She used this in her art work and then conducted 6 video interviews with some of the ladies, now 60 – 90 years of age. Further archive research provided a record of ‘voices’ of the women across the full 50 years. The main outcome has been an exhibition in Sowerby Bridge library telling the story of life at the hostel and work at the mills.
