Stansfield Grange. Home to the ‘Triangle Mill Sisters’

The ‘Triangle Mill Sisters’ exhibition was awarded the WHN Community prize in 2014 and as a follow up Ruth Beazley has written a book and created a web site both of which will be available from the beginning of September 2016.

The exhibition includes over two hundred photographs from a collection by Ted Fenton and presents first-hand stories from women who lived in the building when it was a hostel for women mill workers between the 1920s and the 1970s. The exhibition has been touring Calderdale libraries for two years and will be on display again at King Cross Library, Halifax from 26 September to 25 October. BBC1 Finding Families featured the exhibition in one of their recent programmes.

The book, sponsored by Accent Group Ltd, traces the history of Stansfield Grange which was originally built by wealthy mill owners over a period of 350 years. The relationship between William Morris’ woollen spinning mill, Triangle village and Stansfield Grange is explored and the vibrant fifty years of hostel life is described. To obtain a book contact ruth.beazley@btopenworld.com

Complementing the book there is a web site www.stansfield-grange-triangle.co.uk. This includes most of the original photographic collection and first-hand memories of life in the hostel and work in the mill.

Many enquiries have been received from people seeking information about relatives who used to live at Stansfield Grange and people keen to renew friendships. Anybody who is, or has been, a resident will receive a free copy of the book in exchange for information about when they lived at the Grange. This register will be kept to help with future enquiries.
