WESWWHN Annual Conference: Historical Perspectives on Women and Food

The West of England and South Wales Women’s History Network Annual Conference is on Historical Perspectives on Women and Food and will be held at the University of Exeter, Stocker Road, Exeter, EX4 4PY on Saturday 11 October 2025 from 9.15 am to 5pm.

This one-day conference will focus on women’s contribution to all aspects of food production and consumption in both material and cultural forms. The keynote Speaker is Polly Russell, food historian and curator at the British Library. Themes include Colonial India, food production, cookery books, the politics of food, and food preparation and consumption.  The day will also include the opportunity to visit the University of Exeter Library Special Collections during the lunch break.
