Hello WHN members,
Hope you all had sunny Easter weekends.
In 2020 I started an online suffrage play reading group to read and discuss plays written for and by members of the Votes for Women movement. Over twenty reading sessions casts of professional performers from across performance genres read over 40 plays, poems and sketches – if you’re interested in finding out more and seeing recordings of these do join the ‘Suffrage Plays Reading Group’ on Facebook.
Now we’re doing an in-person reading session at the Phoenix Arts Club in Soho, on Wednesday 4th May at 7pm, in association with feminist production hub Scary Little Girls.
Plays currently tbc based on performer availability – but can promise some rare, chewy and fascinating political theatre from the 1910s and opportunities for discussion afterwards, all in a very theatrical setting with interesting memorabilia from the early-mid 20C lining the walls.
Tickets are just £5 and can be booked now! It’s all cabaret seating – as you can see here: https://phoenixartsclub.com/whats-on/eventdetails/?id=40401AJTHBLMVMBVCCLGRTCHHQHMCLTQK
Please do share with colleagues and students. It will be lovely to have a live in person audience for this special event.
Thanks and all best,
Naomi
