Third Annual Commemoration for Brave British Women in Medical Missions in Serbia and other fronts during the Great War

Zvezdana Popovik has provided information on two events. The first was the subject of the WHN Blog on 22nd March. However, as a reminder:

Since 2017 marks the centenary of Dr Elsie Inglis’s death,  Guest speaker, Alan Cumming, Scottish Women’s Hospitals website, will tell attendees at this function more about Dr Inglis and women from SWHs. The event will take place on 28th March at 6. 00 7.45 at the North Kensington Library, 108 Ladbroke Grove, W11 1PZ.

The second event is the third commemoration for brave British women in medical missions in Serbia. Last year the second commemoration was the topic of a WHN blog. In 2016 the second annual commemoration for brave British women in medical missions in Serbia and on the other fronts during the Great War was covered by the WHN blog.

This year the third commemoration will take place on:

Saturday 4th March from 12.00 to 2pm

at Serbian Orthodox Church St Sava,

89 Lancaster Road, London W11 1QQ.

Since 2017 marks the centenary of Dr Elsie Inglis’s death, the commemoration will pay a special tribute to her life. Our Guest speaker, Alan Cumming, Scottish Women’s Hospitals website, will tells us more about Dr Inglis and women from SWHs. More than 600 “Scottish women” were in Serbia in 1915-1916. In 1917 Dr Inglis’ death provoked debate of rewarding women Victoria Cross, reward she did not get, but was rewarded with highest Serbian awards.

Zvezdana Popovik:

We will not forget to mention various other organizations and individuals – like Dr Elizabeth Ross who died in 1915 in Kragujevac, like Lorna Ferris and Mabel Dearmer (from Mabel Stobart’s hospital in Kragujevac, 1915) or famous golfer,Madge Neil-Fraser, who died in Nis 1915, where she came as an orderly with Scottish Women’s Hospitals.

We will remember them all, those who died and those who survived, most significantly, Lady Page.

Zvezdana Popovik  would like to invite everybody to come and make this commemoration special.
